Reader panel: Plaza building debate
People like to pretend the Plaza is some special 'historic' site, but to me it's just another lame over priced shopping mall I can't afford to patronize. What better symbolizes the true mission of the Plaza (capitalism) than accepting they'll get more $ outta renters than architecture lovers? Since I don't go there, I don't care, but if it will create local Kansas City JOBS I'm all for it.

Reader panel: A mosque near Ground Zero
I understand why folks are worked up about this, particularly people that lost loved ones 9/11. But I wonder, what would be an acceptable distance? A Mile? Ten Miles? How about off our shores completely? Once you start saying you can't build something in X place, it's a slippery slope towards not being able to do it anywhere. If that's what people really want, they don't understand or care what this country is about (FREEDOM!)

Reader panel: Birthright citizenship
If being born here doesn't make you a citizen, what does? I think it is a horrible idea to change something as huge as the Constitution to attempt to solve this specific problem, and I don't believe it would anyway. You wanta stop illegal immigration? Stop hiring them! They come here for JOB$, if people would quit employing them, they'd quit coming!

Reader panel: Your hot issues
I'm most concerned about the lack of involvement in our government and society as a whole by the general public. People don't bother to be informed about issues or vote. They want contradictory things like lower taxes but also more services. People don't seem to understand the government is US. If you aren't happy with something the government is doing or not doing, get informed, get involved, and create the solution you'd like to see instead of just bitching about it.

Reader panel: The Aug. 3 elections
I always vote when there's an opportunity, so I plan to vote August 3rd, although I'm not 100% what all campaigns I get to vote on. In my little corner of the world (Historic NorthEast) the main battle is between John Joseph Rizzo and Will Royster for the House 40th District. I'd like to pick neither because both have used depressingly negative campaign methods. I never like to endorse negativity.

Reader panel: 'To Kill a Mockingbird'
Watership Down by Richard Adams is my favorite book of all time. It has something for everyone; mass destruction, adventure, clarvoyance, multi-cultural friendship, good triumphing over evil, creation of a new society, and all kinds of interesting symbolism and life lessons, wrapped in an exciting story about a small group of rabbits trying to survive in rural England. I re-read Watership Down at least once a year to remind myself why I fell in love with reading as a kid.

Reader Panel: Future of the Big 12
As someone that's more interested in verbal semantics then sports I wonder how the names of the conferences will change IF teams leave. If the Pacific-10 gains two teams and the Big 12 loses two does that mean they swap digits? It's like a goofy math word problem...

e-readers vs paper: How do you like to read?
The old-fashioned way - on paper.
My favorite method of relaxation is reading a good book in a hot bath, and the idea of taking one of those digital readers to the tub seems pretty dangerous.
Plus I like to share good books with friends and e-books make that nearly impossible.

Are you getting an H1N1 vaccine?
Nope. I never get flu shots. My method for good health is staying as far away from profit driven modern medicine as possible.
As it's currently set up, the sicker you are, the more $ they make. How can that possibly be a good idea?

What do you think of Tiger Woods' recent marital issues?
If you make your money as a public person, you should expect scrutiny when you screw up.
I feel bad for Tiger. This whole situation sucks, even if it's of his own making.
At the same time, he had to know better. All I can think is what was he thinking? Apparently he wasn't.
