... is apparently still a big, fat idiot.

In an interview with the New York Times, he pouts about not being accepted socially by famous journalists.

Said Limbaugh: “I assumed there was a fraternity of broadcasting guys in New York. I thought my success would launch me into a circle of accomplished people. Look, I admired these people. Peter Jennings, Tom Brokaw, Dan Rather — people watched these guys. I thought they would welcome me as one of them. I was wrong.
I realized that my professional achievements were discounted because of my conservatism and my constant criticism of those who I thought would welcome me.”

Seriously? Does Rush really consider himself a peer of journalists like Tom Brokaw?

There's no doubt Rush is successful. As a commentator, not a journalist. He's clearly an advocate for a cause, while broadcast anchors like Brokaw and Jennings are objective presenters of the news.

Thoughts?

Avoiding taking sides...the most definitave answer to whom is real behind the anchor desk is...none of the above. Come on, people. News anchors long ago distanced themselves from true and accurate, accountable reporting. Now "the firm" writes the copy and who we see on television or hear on radio are simply actors. I give no more creedence to a Rather or Brokaw than a Limbaugh. All are one and half dozen of the other. No one is a peer, just a popularity contest winner at any given year. The last of the now dead breed of journalists-reporters was Cronkite.

You see no difference between Brokaw and Limbaugh. Or, say, Tim Russert.

The only difference I see is who's pushing their respective buttons. Limbaugh is a right-wing nationalist. Brokaw a left-wing liberal. They parrot the organizations who made them a "star."

Since this topic is about Rush Limbaugh, I want to echo the point that Rush Limbaugh is very fat and quite idiotic. Can I throw Sean Hannity in there? For that matter all of Fox News.

But on the topic of bias. All news and the anchors have a bias. Perhaps its their own, but more than likely it reflects the corporation that pulls their strings.

Some anchors are better at keeping it towards the middle, I think Tim Russert was a shining example of someone that did that. If you asked me who Russert's bias was for, I'd probably have to say towards the middle and for the people. I could be wrong.

If you asked me who was Limbaugh's bias for, I'd say Neo Frek'n Conservatives.

The bias, either towards the liberal or conservative sides, have gotten really apparent. No one bothers hiding it anymore. No one tries to even appeal to the center. Thats the strange thing.

My biggest problem with Rush is that he constantly refers to the "Mainstream media" as though they're awful, and liars, and liberal, and whatever...and then is more than happy to sit down and let the New York Times do a photoshoot and article about him?!

He's a damn hypocrite and has no morals or ideals in the least. If it's about him, it feeds into his ego and it's okay.

He's desperate for attention. He secretly longs for the "mainstream press" to adore him and accept him...and then bashes them for being partisan and "Drive-by Journalists" when they talk about the war not going to well, or our economy going to shit.

Limbaugh: boo.
Brokaw: yeah!
Russert: nnnn...uhhg?

Speaking of Limbaugh, I can't believe Al Franken may pull it off! It is inspiring to see someone, regardless of their point of view, start "walking the walk." Brokaw is an amazing orator of American culture. Boom is an incredible read - at least the first couple of chapters I have made my way through! Russert? That is debatable. I am sympathetic for his passing, but was never impressed by his reporting/interviewing style. Still, I'd take him over Limbaugh.

The Song Dirty Laundry by Don Henley is apropos for this subject.

I make my living off the evening news
Just give me something-something I can use
People love it when you lose,
They love dirty laundry

Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here
I just have to look good, I dont have to be clear
Come and whisper in my ear
Give us dirty laundry

Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em all around
We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who
Comes on at five
She can tell you bout the plane crash with a gleam
In her eye
Its interesting when people die-
Give us dirty laundry

Can we film the operation?
Is the head dead yet?
You know, the boys in the newsroom got a
Running bet
Get the widow on the set!
We need dirty laundry

You dont really need to find out whats going on
You dont really want to know just how far its gone
Just leave well enough alone
Eat your dirty laundry
Dirty little secrets
Dirty little lies
We got our dirty little fingers in everybodys pie
We love to cut you down to size
We love dirty laundry

We can do the innuendo
We can dance and sing
When its said and done we havent told you a thing
We all know that crap is king
Give us dirty laundry!

"We all know that crap is king"

Well, that certainly applies.

I have a question for you, though Paulie, since you enjoy Rush. (I must admit, even though I disagree with him about everything, I'm such a political junkie that I often listen to his program on my lunch break.)

Do you really believe him when he rants against the "Drive-By Media" and how he's such an outsider, a "truth detector" that isn't part of the mainstream?

Because he's had the #1 radio talk show for over a decade now. His ratings are so high that #2 doesn't even come close. He's constantly asked for quotes and viewpoints in the newspapers and on the networks whenever the conservative party needs someone to spotlight their ideals, (or even when someone like McCain is a "R.I.N.O." and they cling to Rush to lead the party back to "Reagan Conservativism") and just signed a $400 Million dollar contract...more than any other "journalist" has ever made.

How much more "mainstream" can you get?!
