6 guys from Kansas City that signed with Warner Records last year. EP is out and available on iTunes and through online stores. Full length CD will be out in June.

You can check out the sound at myspace.com/josephinecollective or www.josephinecollective.com

Give Kansas City's own a listen...

nothing about josephine is going to halt you in your tracks- you won't find them rattling corporate cages or pushing the boundaries of what a "pop" song could be...

but

they can write passable hooks, and the production is clever in places ( handclaps in "it's like rain").

barring a freak accident in which each of the band members lose an arm, i predict they will find success in the world of mtv background music...

Yeah Jack, they aren't no Stabbing Westward are they...Just chaps your a-- that some 19 year old kids could be signed by Warner doesn't it!

Just saw them with Story of the Year last night in Wichita and it was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time (Mars Volta show at the Beaumont was amazing!) If your Mom will let you drive, they're both playing Columbia, MO April 23rd at the Blue Note.

Or just go back to rocking The Architects...

Smiley, Hear what you're saying, but that's what happens. The only reason "Revolver" "Sgt. Peppers" and "The White Album" happened was The Beatles poured out sappy "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" pop first...

These days it is much worse With CD's near extinct, file sharing, pirating etc. Labels are allowing VERY little artistic expression. Labels NEVER gave a sh-t about Merchandise until last year, now they're making bands do Merch deals because that's the only place to make money.

Take a listen to the full length after it drops in June, you'll hear a lot more diversity than the EP or the accoustic demos posted on their MySpace.

people say that about the early beatles all the time. you have to play "the man's game" at first to get ahead etc... and i agree with you to a point. it's a ridiculous market filled with politics and greed.

i also don't see josephine dropping a sgt. pepper down the line either....

based on what joesphine is giving us right now on myspace and the live show (i've seen them twice), they just lack an originality to set them apart from any of the corporate robots flooding the airwaves. the reason that warner was so eager to sign them is that they already fit their mold so well (before warner had any say!).

and when it comes down to it, what should be more important to a musician? the ability to put your stamp on the world around you, or the potential success you may find wearing the grey corporate uniform?

and maybe that's what it comes down to. kids aren't interested in the expression anymore. they just wanna be rockstars.

edit: by the way, i sincerely hope you're right about their coming record. perhaps it will prove me wrong about them and restore a little faith in the record industry. then again, maybe it won't.

Don't know what all those big words are all about....but I think all music sucks except for Ace of Base. I can't really say I blame kids for wanting to be rockstars though..especially in this economy. Being discovered as a true original artist and not a "corporate robot" is something all musicians should strive for...but it all boils down to that sweet sweet dollar. Or as I hear it's going to be re-named the penny. There isn't much any of us wouldn't do right now for money money money....I think we can all agree on that. And if you don't then you are a liar!!!

Oh yeah..and Josephine totally does blow....

Josephine blows. More of the same that was never even good in the first place.

I'm w/ you Clegg, Josephine is the last on the whiney, emo rock bandwagon. All that Brand New-Story of the Year-Taking Back Sunday junk. Once again, KC is the last horse to cross the finish line. Could be worse, they could be playing swing or ska-punk and wondering why no one else is doing it anymore.

And sorry Bellbiv, major labels don't impress me. They usually end up dropping smaller acts when they don't live up to ridiculous expectations while churning out more American Idol-like crap on a daily basis.
