live albums aren't usually my thing, but this changing weather caused me to pull some old records out of the closet. listed below (in no particular order) are the records that will be in heavy rotation during the fall transition.
built to spill - live
blasting this as i type. the highlight of the record is without a doubt the 20 minute cover of neil young's cortez the killer.
sunny day real estate - live
words cannot express how much i love this recording. this band was beyond flawless live and this album reflects that.
br5-49 - live from robert's
this nashville bar recording has a cover of knoxville girl and a song called 18 wheels and a crowbar. need i say more?
aerosmith - live bootleg
really hate to admit it, but aerosmith was once good. this recording from 1978 has some real gems. make fun of me all you want.
eels - with strings: live at town hall
mark everett's songs always remind me of times past. this record has some gorgeous recordings of his best work.
the flying burrito brothers - live at the avalon ballroom
gram parsons is perhaps my favorite songwriter and clarence white is one of my favorite musicians. you do the math.
chuck ragan - los feliz
i am a huge hot water music fan so it shouldn't be a shock that i like chuck's solo stuff. can't wait to see him play these live in person.
the home rangers - live at kansas day
this is my dad's band and he tells lots of bad jokes throughout their set. if you know my father, that shouldn't be a surprise. classic.
starflyer 59 - never play covers
jason martin is a super nice dude and i love his music. if i could find my copy of this, i would be listening to it right now.
motörhead - no sleep 'til hammersmith
explanation not necessary. lemmy is god.
mark kozelek - little drummer boy live
holy cow, i listened to this record so many times when it was first released. it's about time for another marathon listening session.
that's all i can think of off the top of my head right now. i know i left some out. now it's time to sit out on my back deck, drink a pabst, a listen to aerosmith. eat shit.
anyone else have some favorite live records?
