Most underrated bands in Kansas City?

the abc's
abracadabras
it's over!

the acb's and it's over are both writing the best pop that's come out of kansas city in years, and we aren't hearing much about it. abracadabras are writing some of the best material kansas city has EVER seen, and they aren't getting attention past their neo-glam image...

the real tragedy is kansas city's idol worship of it's old guard... roman numerals, republic tigers, beautiful bodies etc... the scene is stale, and the city will do nothing to disturb the heirarchy. we need a kick in the ass.

Didn't INK cover both The ACBs and The Abracadabras recently? INK desperately needs a show review archive.

they did, actually! and perhaps ink is the swift kick that we need!

all i'm saying is that things are very comfortable in the kc scene right now, and i think those are three bands out of many that have the potential to turn heads, but aren't because of bias or sheer laziness in the few factions who run the joint.

i'm glad ink is here. it's been like a basketball game with one team around here...

I think the ACB's are pretty poptastic and don't get much credit for it. It's Over is the most entertaining live group to watch in the city by far. Every time I see them they blow me away. I think the Abracadabras are Kansas City's best band period, and hope they start getting the attention they deserve.

Not much else worth paying attention to unfortunately. Time and time again I go to see the popular bands in the city that I read about, or hear people talk about, and time and time again I am seriously let down.

That's because you are seeking radio friendly pop music. Not really a fair statement to say there's not much else worth paying attn to is it??? I'm surprised you don't mention The Republic Tigers in the bands you like. As far as the radio friendly stuff goes in KC, they are probably one of the best bands out there.

The KC/Lawrence area also has several hard rock bands that are quite good at what they do. For example, The Federation Of Horsepower, The Throttlers, The Architects, The Old Black, my band, The Shaker Hoods is pretty damn decent...if I do say so...and Black Gasoline, from Wichita is fantastic...but they don't really count as a KC band. Anyway...these are some of my favorites but I wouldn't say there's not much else worth paying attn. to. Ever heard of the Gaslights? Americana rock with a bad ass female lead vocal. There are several good bands in this area.

As far as "old guard", It's Over has been around MUCH longer than Republic Tigers. Do your homework. There are a slew of great bands in the kc/lawrence scene that do receive coverage from Pitch, Tim Finn at The Star, Lawrence.com and others. Check out Ghosty, DRI, Fourth of July, Ad Astra Per Aspera, Ssion, The Sixteens, Softee, The Belles, Olympic Size, Tut Tut, and yes, The ACB's, Republic Tigers, Roman Numerals and Abracadabras to just name a few.

there are a ton, and depending on your genre of choice, the list can be quite diverse.

Im glad to see the Republic Tigers catching some attenton. I've been in and out of the scene for quite a long time now, but have spent most of it running in the rock/hard rock and metal circle.

top of that list currently I'd say The Leo Project, Red Line Chemistry, Flee the Seen, Sidewise to name a few are among those solid in the scene.

Insert shameless self promotion here - If you haven't yet, check out my own band of the last 5 years - One Degree Difference, we just released our second CD, first with current singer.
