Whether it's the atmosphere, the staff, the drink specials or the people who frequent the place, there's nothing quite like a good bar. And at Ink, we want to know what your favorite bar is and why it holds that special place in your alcohol-fueled heart.

Give us an especially good reason and we might feature your testimonial in the Sept. 17 bar guide.

It doesn't get any better for a night out for my favorite of favorite places...VOODOO LOUNGE @ Harrah's Casino. The Setup: For one, it's the largest bar/club/concert hall in the greaeter KC area. It's decked out "Vegas Style" which makes you feel like you could be anywhere in the country once you've walked thru the door. The team of people running the show from hostess to server to bartender are truely some of the finest the profession has to offer. And, the security is unmatched at any venue from dance floor to parking. The Venue: Anything from stand up comedy to boxing to Chippendale's to main stream pop, rock, country and hip-hop artists frequent the night's entertainment schedule. Saturday night has forever been "club night" and pulls in a crowd of roughly 700 or more...to the magic of nationally known DJ's flown in from all over the country, the famed VOODOO DOLLS Dancers, and the talents of competition award winning flair bartenders. And of course they host the premiere annual events of Halloween, Christmas, and New Year's Eve unparalleled by any other Applause At full capacity VOODOO LOUNGE can handle 1200 people in both main floor and the surround balcony level, has excellant VIP service and accomadations, 9 bartender stations along 2 full legnth side bars and one upper level, all with most any drink imaginable including the infamous "Witchdoctor." Cover on Sat night is a mere $5.

Although there are new places in town in our ever changing city...VOODOO LOUNGE will always be my anchor for a night out on the town Smile There absolutely IS no better.

HOW DO YOU VOODOO?

A good bar depends a lot on my mood at the time of being at said "good bar".
If im in the mood for live music then i dig the dive bars. Daveys Uptown, The Brick, or The Riot Room are all good for live music.
If an outdoor show is an option then Knuckleheads is as good as you will find. Its a great atmosphere and still has a little bit of that nice dive bar vibe i enjoy so much.
If i want a beer with friends and am looking for a night of just shootin' the "dookie" then i have to go with Bobby Bakers in Waldo. Its nice and dark, mostly locals, cheap, etc...
You cant beat Bobbby Bakers.

I'm a huge fan of Thomas Restaurant. There are two parts to Thomas that makes your experience an enjoyable one. The first part is the roof/deck area. If you enjoy fresh air and drinking some wine under the stars that is your area to shine. If you want to be entertained the lower portion features and exquisite pianist and lounge like singer that can play any tune you request. His interpretations of artists like Flight of the Conchords to Journey to Snoop Dogg will have you wanting to be his best friend. It's a drink and be merry kinda' place. I love it.

I think it ultimately comes down to who works there and who frequents the bar. For me, Tower Tavern is the perfect storm of great times and great people.

The Brooksider. You can show up in your finest or your sweatpants and no one will think any different. The outdoor patio is awesome when the weather is nice, you can catch the Zeros rocking out on the stage upstairs, get your college style groove on in the basement with some nasty rap jams, eat pretty decent bar food and always catch your favorite sporting event on the TV's. It's got a great neighborhood feel and everyone is welcome.

Howl at the Moon in Power and Light. You can get buckets for drinks, they play what you want and there is always a sing along. Luckily its always loud enough that no one can hear your less than amazing singing voice, and i have never once seen them allow drunk karaoke. Which is one of my favorite pastimes, but not always pretty for everyone else.Dancing

The thing I love most about KC is the sheer diversity of bars you can hit in a single night! I love dive-bar crawls! For which Harlings is my absolute favourite! Dressing to impress? Then Kona before Blonde on a Thursday always hits the spot! Saving a few $$$'s? Then Dark Horse happy in Westport with $10 all you can drink is a cheap and cheerful way to kick start your Friday/Saturday night! After-work happyhour? Velvet Dog, The Drop or Sol... P&L? So many bars, so little time! And don't forget Sharps and Missie-B's for your definitive outrageous Tequila Sunday!!

Great Times! I'm off to get pissed!!! Laughing

Mine would have to be Sol Cantina in Martini Corner. They have a great happy hour (Dos Equis are on special!) and their Chicken Nachos are to die for. Also, when the weather is great and a nice breeze is coming through the bar, I feel like I should be somewhere in Mexico. Very Happy And that, my friends, is a great place to be.

Balanca's/The Pyro Room
It has a stigma for being a swinger bar and has a mysterious basement level...but all rumors aside the owner is the nicest woman on the planet! She doesn't take any crap from anyone, ever. I just enjoy the atmosphere and there is a little bit of every kind of person in there...great if you are a people watcher. Oh, and the drinks are great too!
