The KC P & L Bar scene is already exploding. Its quite exciting to see the boom it is bringing to this town.

I wish I could do a poll, but technically, thats not an option.

The question is:
Which venues do people like best & Why? Dancing
- Which venue do people not like so much & Why? Sad

- I'll post my opinion at a later time.

well, in general i'm a big fan of P&L just because it is already smoke freeSmile i like the beer at Gordon Biersch (spelling??) and Ragland Road (the spiffy Irish bar). I have yet to go into Angel Rock Bar because I'm not sure if it's my scene. One thing P&L offers is a lot of variety in regards to the different types of bars in a small area.

What's a good place in the P&L for sitting outside on a nice spring/summer night (and actually be able to hear what the person next to you is saying)?

Well don't get me started on this subject....too late already in it.

#1. Pamela, skip the corporate and fake world of P&L where deep pocket businesses were given unneeded tax breaks and local business people were shunned to the side to fend for themselves. There are lots of great places that have been trying to revive the downtown scene long before P&L came about. Which brings me to #2, you want to be able to talk and enjoy a nice spring/summer day? Go to any of those smaller local places within walking distance of P&L. I'm obviously very partial to JP Wine Bar (that goes without saying), where three individuals put their necks and life savings out there to create a fun, "high-class" atmosphere, where anyone can come and be accepted. No long lines, no "are you on the guest list" or "did you buy a table" b.s. Yes, we do get crazy busy at times as well, but we still give everyone the best experience we can. I should mention for BENAKC that JPs has been smoke free the whole 2 years they've been open. I also like Nara's atmosphere a lot as well, and let's not forget some old school places like The Brick, which still provides music and entertainment every night of the week. Thanks Sherry.

I'm not bashing the concept the P&L district aims for, I'm just mad that it is full of corporate businesses that don't have the personal interest in the whole downtown revival project like local businesses do (props to Chef Burger, although this is his 4th or 5th venture, so soon he too will be considered "corporate" Rolling Eyes )

I have been down there a few times, it is what it is; if it's your thing, I'm not mad at ya. I've just had a couple bad experiences. So next time you do decide to tear it up at the P&L, swing down south a few blocks and grab some great wines and food at JPs, a real local place I'm proud to work at. And I should mention that we are opening our second JP Wine Bar in October!! Dancing

Cheers everyone, sorry for my rant.

Oh yeah I am looking forward to one thing this summer when hopefully the rumors come true that HomeGrown Buzz will start having shows there at the KC Live! stage. That will be fun.

Yes, JP's is awesome. In fact, I go there too much.

What I like about the P&L in general, is that it gives the city options...the same options that have been available to residents in larger cities for years. Like every big city, the options can and should vary.

Like the P&L or not, it is the press it generates which is bringing people back downtown after years of living in sprawl. In turn, scattered KC residents will rediscover their CITY and discover independently owned operations like JP's.

I am the first to give credit to the Independents. I will always choose to support local businesses first. The reality is that most businesses start out independent, with the desire to grow and prosper. Even JP's recognizes the importance of appealing to a wider audience, as they branch out South this year.

I've been to the Bristol twice .. once on a Monday (80% full) and once on a Saturday (100%). The chow is a bit expensive but good. The vibe on the Saturday was great all around the P&L ... lots of people, many appearing to be from out of town walking around and in the restaurants even though it was cold. Raglan Road does indeed serve a superior Guiness.

You all know I HEART JP and Power and Light. I love the Living Room at Power and Light and look forward to spending some summer nights there. I really like Vinino, but I like most of the bars there, too.

P&L is like a bar version of Worlds of Fun: themed and overpriced with long lines. I leave feeling that I have cheated the good spots like JP, Nara or Bar Natasha but having had a blast none the less. P&L is my guilty pleasure. I have lived in downtown since back in the day when you would drive down Grand at one in the morning and you would be the only car on the road and I have to say it’s nice to finally see downtown looking the way it should. Several things have contributed to the renaissance, but one thing is for sure, if P&L weren’t here, many of the people who are now flocking there to there to drink $5 beers, would be going to places like the legends or out south - probably not unique local places like Seven or La Bodega. Power and Light may get people down here but places like these will keep them coming back.

I'm sorta in the same boat. I don't like big corporate chains so much for myself. But I want people to come to downtown KC and revitalize it.

There's a scene in The Office (US) where Michael talks about how much he loves going to NYC and getting some authentic NY pizza -- then they flash to him grinning and pointing at a Sbarro and saying something like, "There it is. I love that place!"

I love JPs, Nara, etc. I just don't know how much the general populace will be attracted to those type of places. I was in Raglan Road and there was a a dude who just could not understand why they didn't have Bud Light draft there. Nothing against him of course ... he wanted a Bud Light.
