This morning on ABC's Good Morning America, Kansas City mayor Mark Funkhouser snagged an interview with Diane Sawyer.

The topic? Funk's battle with the city to allow his wife, Gloria Squitiro, to work in his office. "Does he love his wife too much?" was the headline here: http://abcnews.go.com/gma

Funk calls the city council's attempt to ban Squitiro from his office "an attempt to block and slow change." Oh, no! Not the "c" word!

Sawyer also pressed Squitiro to explain a previous statement that Kansas Citians are "beige people." The Italian New Yorker explained she meant to say "reserved."

"Political wives are comin' out of the closet!" Squitiro says, crediting Hilary for paving the way for Michelle. Do you guys think Squitiro should keep her cube in Funk's office?

Kansas City makes news for the weirdest reasons...

Can you imagine showing up for work with your spouse as a volunteer personal assistant and no one having a problem with it?

If Funkhouser wants his wife in the office working with him, that's fine. Now her having a cubicle is a bit much. If she's not a true employee of the city, then she shouldn't have a cubicle. Shame on you Smile

Well, one of the whole keys of this issue (and used interchangeably by Diane Sawyer) is saying Squitro "works" with Funk or "volunteers" with Funk, and pretends there is not a difference in the short sound-bite oriented reporting.

Pick one and stick with it, but be clear that she isn't getting a paycheck from the city, which can understandably be a source of frustration by people who are trying to do their jobs that they are getting paid for.
