Since I just finished my final Harry Potter book (sad, I know), I'm on the prowl for a new book. Went to the library and picked up two new ones: "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim" by David Sedaris and "All the Pretty Horses" by Cormac McCarthy.

Do you guys know any good reads?

"The Stranger" is very good. I'm not really a big fan of Cormac MacCarthy. His "The Road" left me lost.
If you are into Harry Potter type fantasy, you might enjoy the inheritance series. The first 2 books Eragon and Eldest are already out and the third comes out in September. It's about dragons and a little on the geeky side, but well worth it. The author started writing them when he was 15. I can't think of his name at the moment. Also "The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follet, very long, but an excellent read.

I actually own "Rum Diary" but could never get into it. Maybe I'll give it another chance. I own "The Stranger," too, and love it.

I think I want to get away from the whole fantasy genre for awhile. After reading seven Harry Potter books in a row, I've had all the magic I can tolerate.

diary of a drug fiend--aleister crowley

a favorite of mine, although i guess that sounds bad. it's really not a book about being on drugs all the time--it's about the psychology of addcition and how one can heal in the aftermath. all of which is of particualar interest for me, due to my personal history of being an addict and because i'm majoring in psychology and hope to someday be an addiction counselor.

it's also a good book to start with in terms of getting into crowley's literature. if you aren't familiar with him, he's got a pretty cool system of relating to the world. it's almost like a religion, but not quite. i guess i'd call it a "spiritual belief sytem".

i just finished a book called "evasion" published by an anoymous author under the crimethink, inc. publishing house. it's a chronicle of one man's journeys being a homeless trainhopper. it tells all about living without having a job--stealing food from dumpsters and squatting. it's absolutely fascinating and really inspiring, since my lifelong dream has always been to be homeless and a trainhopper (i am NOT being sarcastic).

those are my picks!!!
