After downing many great fresh squeezed OJs at Coffee Girls, my husband and I are ready to commit to a juicer.

I hate shopping for stuff like this, so I'm hoping someone can clue me in on a good brand - or warn me away from a piece of crap.

I'm considering getting a commercial juicer just so the quality is as amazing as the ones I buy at CG.

Right now we're using a vintage hand-crank juicer that goes through about 8 oranges for one glass of juice. Looks cute in the kitchen, but not practical.

Help!

you know this is just the sort of thing i'm into! since you're into the citrus juices, you need to make sure you get the kind that has "auger" capability. that means it doesn't just shred through fruits and vegetables (which you'll want for a lot of things) but also can crush through fruits (like you'll want for orange juice). i haven't bought one yet, but i think the brand to go with is Omega. you might spend a couple hundred dollars (your month's budget of coffee girl's juice?), but this is supposed to last a lot longer than the kind you see on the infomericials...

I've not heard of Omega...but I've heard great things about Champion Juicers. I currently have the Jack LaLanne juicer from Costco, which has served me well, but is definitely a juice & drink model (the juice doesn't keep very well if you juice and try to store it)...The Champion Juicers actually allow you to juice and store it for a few days...
Hope this helps - happy juicing!

I'm working on a feature about the fresh-squeezed juice blends at Succotash at the City Market. Yesterday, I talked to the owner, Beth, who told me any ol' juicer will do when it comes to juicing at home.

Beth's advice? Add beets for a sweet/earthy addition to your juices.

I recently received a juicer from a friend, after having the Lawnmower at Succotash. While mine is not a highly efficient machine, it works for my purposes, and I absolutely LOVE that thing!

To be honest, I can't remember the name of the machine, but I will post it when I go home for lunch to juice!

Definitely great for vegetarians, just FYI.
