My favorite restaurant in Kansas City is back. Whether you love the P&L or hate it, go to the Peachtree. The best soul food fine dining ever, with great ambiance. I love going there on dates.

Any tips on soul food to try? I've never really been to a soul food restaurant and I'm not sure what to order first.

Everything is awesome. They are famous for their fried chicken and catfish. They also have baked. If you are a veggie, they have excellent green beans, awesome homestyle mac and cheese, sweet potato cornbread and all the desserts are fantastic, especially the peach cobbler.

And on a completely unrelated note, The Phoenix reopens on Wednesday.

What's The Phoenix? Sorry if it's some famous KC thing -- I'm a Lawrencian so I'm not hip to all the KC hotspots.

It's this blues/jazz club downtown around 8th and Wyandotte. It's been a Kansas City favorite for years. It's real laid back and a great place to chill and have a martini. Real popular for happy hour. They closed a few years back to "renovate," but they also had some financial issues as well. The cool part is that it's attached to a larger building that used to be a hotel back in the old days. The part of the hotel that the Phoenix occupies used to be the bordello. It still has kind of that "old-fashioned" interior, unless they've changed since it closed.

i know they've been doing some work on the Phoenix as i have a friend who lives near it and he reports lots of banging around. i'm hoping it's not TOO updated. the other bit of rumor i hear is that the new menu will try to class the joint up a bit - "signature martinis," "small plates"... you know the drill...
