Ever since I got back from San Francisco, I've been craving sushi in a major way.

Problem is, I've only been to a few places around here. Nara was good, and so is Wa in Lawrence. Ink's web editor, Trevan, swears by Yokohama in Lawrence, so I'm trying that this weekend.

Where do you guys like to go for raw fish?

I'm in the same boat, Sarah. As you mentioned, I love Yokohama, but now that I'm in Shawnee I'm completely lost on my sushi options. Nara is delicious, but I like a lot of variety and dozens of specialty rolls.

And so this weekend I'm going sushi hunting and the only way I can lose is if I get food poisoning.

my top choice is pretty close to you, Trev. Jun's, near 80th and Stateline, in the stripmall across from the Hyvee. Flawless food, classy but comfortable dining room, great service. Not cheap, but not as high as Nara and totally worth it. Go there!

There's a good place on Barry Road in the Northland called Kato.

We also like the sushi at Bo Lings in the River Market.

I've always been a big fan of the Sushi House, the Leawood location in Town Center Plaza. For carry out / take home Dean & DeLuca is very good. Surprisingly Hen House is pretty decent too - they have a great Blue Crab roll.

I am a big fan of Friends on 39th and Sushi Gin on at 95th and Nall.

There's a little place called Kaiyo in Leawood. I've only gone there for lunch once, but it was a little cheaper than Sushi House and quite good.

I just went to Domo in Brookside for the first time last week, and was very impressed.

And Matsu in Westport is always a good choice.

So the sushi in the cafeteria upstaris isn't good enough for you, SB?
The Mash-up is retired. It's OK to cry.

I think Kona Grill does a good job. Nara too. Sushi House is a bit too far afield but when I have gone there it's been good.

Domo in Brookside is decent, cheap and unassuming ... meaning no assumptions at all. Not a single one.

I'll second Domo in Brokside. Its definatly the best sushi ive had in Kansas City. A bit expensive but good sushi usually is.
My favorite place for sushi though is Sykora on 75th and Neiman.
The setup is awesome. Its a bar with a train that runs non stop right in front of you. The train puls cars of sushi and you just grab a plate is it rolls by. Its almost like a buffet. I like it a lot because i can just eat until im stuffed and there is no wait. With other sushi places you have to wait while they make you more rolls. At Sykora its all right in front of you at all times. The food is not quite as good as other places but its still good. What they lack in taste they more than make up for in service.
I also suggest you try a saki margarita while youre there too.
And now im craving sushi,dang!
