I am so cheap these days. Ever since the economy went on the fritz I've been super-paranoid about hoarding money. I thought we could all share any deals/bargains/sale news right here.
I'll start: recently, I switched my pharmacy from Walgreens to Hy-Vee which saved me a bundle of bucks on prescriptions. Plus, when you pick up an Rx at Hy-Vee they give you 10 cents off every gallon of gas you purchase at the Hy Vee gas station (if your Hy Vee has one). SO this morning I filled up on $1.69 gas.
oh, and also: I just discovered this really good (and cheap!) wine. It's called Redwood Creek Pinot Noir and a bottle will set you back $7.99. This red is super-smooth, perfectly tangy and really rich-tasting.

Yeah, I grocery-shop around what's in the weekly ads and then do a lot of freezing. For example, when whole chickens go on sale for .79 per lb, I'll buy a few then throw them in the freezer. Frozen veggies like broccoli crowns are a cheap alternative to fresh or canned, too. Plus they're just as nutritious because they're cut at peak freshness and frozen immediately.

DEAL ALERT: Bring a bottle of Shatto milk into the Chipotle in the P&L District today between 5 and 9 p.m. and get a FREE BURRITO. Shatto milk is a Kansas City-area dairy that makes yummy milk in flavors such as root beer, strawberry and chocolate (they sell the plain stuff, too)
And BTW: allergic to veggies? Really? Vegetables aren't that expensive anyway. I think most people probably spend more money on processed foods and meats than on veggies.

No Black Friday shopping, I'm happy to report. I'm still working on derailing the commercialism roller coaster i have found myself on the last few years. Millionaire next door kind of thing. Try is, of course, the optimum word here.
Results have been luke warm so far, but missing the year's big 'shopping' days is a big priority. Cutting down on TV time seems to help with my cravings for retail therapy too oddly enough. hmmmm.....

Me and my b/f went shopping on Black Friday...it was fantasticly crazy. I love that crap, I go every year. We were out at Zona Rosa at midnight when they opened, and they were crazy packed. Then onto Walmart by 3:30am, the screaming and yelling started at 5am over the HDTV's, although no one was trampled to death thank god. I did get everything I planned on getting and other then a few odds and ends my Christmas shopping was done. So chaulk up another successful Black Friday adventure.

The post-Christmas deals will be unbelievable this year, mark my words. Consumers are spending less on Christmas presents, which means stores will have a surplus on their hands post-holidays.
I predict incredible post-holiday markdowns -- which is why I'm holding out on buying too much before then. Actually, I made the mistake of going to the Gap last weekend... The sales were incredible -- most of the jeans were marked down at least 50 percent, and the clearance rack was a gold mine. I snagged a $60 tweed vest for less than $10. I also bought a pair of wide-legged jeans for $20 (they were about $70, full-price).
