Any Downtown dwellers willing to start a voluntary recycling program?
I have lived downtown for four years, and I have noticed that recycling is something that at least rental properties don't do. My bf and I currently take our recycling to his parent's house in KS. This doesn't really help much since it implies using gasoline and a certain degree of CO2 emissions (he's got a Honda Civic, so, no much there, but still...).
So, my proposal is for downtown residents to get together and start our own. Any volunteers/ideas/concerns...?

I think you have a great idea. I don't live downtown but anything we do to help the environment I am all for it.
Also I think we need to promote green products as much as we can. I not sure if you seen the Oprah show on green cleaning products. But I have started my own business with these products. So if you or anyone you know would like to switch their products to green products let me know.
Thanks

Where IS the closest recycling center to downtown KC? There used to be one near the corner of Troost & 47th, but it closed down not too long ago. I live in Pendleton Heights, about 5 minutes east of downtown, and while we do have curbside recycling, they do not take glass (wtf?!). Where do urban dwellers take their recyclables?

I am pretty sure that there is a recycling center on Front Street a bit east of the Isle of Capri.
Since going every week would be a pain, I would post a notice in your building that you are starting a recycling program and interested parties could be assigned weeks to take everyone's recycling in.

hector,
We take it to our families, or some just give up and send it to the landfill.
maeaver531,
Yes, I did. Thanks a ton.
savyinkc,
That's a great idea, kind of what I intended with this post.

Thank you Elcubanito, Grass roots baby!
Hector - the place on Front Street takes glass, but the problem is glass is heavy so if you accumulate much it can be very hard to move. So we switched to beer in the can (recyclable) and unfortunately pitch glass.
