The cover of Isaac Hayes' 1969 album "Hot Buttered Soul."

KC's own Miles Bonny shares his killer rendition of "Walk on By," a song Hayes himself covered on his groundbreaking 1969 album "Hot Buttered Soul."

On the track, which you can listen to here, Bonny lays down vocals over an instrumental version of the song by El Michels Affair. Bonny added additional horn lines to the track, too.

"I loved the Isaac Hayes version [of "Walk on By"] ever since I first heard it on the Dead Presidents soundtrack in high school," Bonny tells ink. "That compilation really turned me on to true soul music."

Bonny, an artist whose work can be described as hip hop, jazz, and even soul, says he was inspired by Hayes.

Hayes "has made a huge impact on soul music, from his soul recordings to his work with Stax, there is no way to deny his contributions to the culture and history of music as a whole...for those interested in learning more about him beyond Shaft and his role on South Park, I'd encourage people to explore his albums."

Bonny also passed along this totally amazing YouTube video about Stax, the revolutionary Memphis record label responsible for sparking soul music. Trust us: it's the perfect time-waster at work, and you'll actually learn something.

Thanks Miles!
