Should Larry Johnson have been suspended?
Last week, the Chiefs suspended starting running back Larry Johnson for two weeks for conduct detrimental to the team.
Johnson posted disparaging remarks on his Twitter page, starting with a remark about Haley’s lack of football playing experience. He later posted a gay slur in response to one of his Twitter followers, and Johnson said another gay slur in the Chiefs’ locker room.
He’s not allowed at team headquarters or to participate in team activities before Nov. 9, the day after the Chiefs play at Jacksonville.
Johnson’s agent, Peter Schaffer, said that an appeal would be filed. He said he would ask for an expedited hearing and he hoped for an expedited response.
“We respectfully disagree,” Schaffer said. “This punishment doesn’t fit the action.”
While suspended, Johnson won’t be paid, saving the Chiefs about $660,000 in total compensation the next two weeks.
Should Larry Johnson have been suspended?

Yes. It was appropriate given what he said.
This move by the Chiefs was absolutely justified. As with any place of employment, there are repercussions to any and all of your actions that are representative an organization.
These large professional sports franchises are run like businesses because they are a business that must protect their public image and sponsors.
The manner in which he used the word 'gay' and directly referencing the Stonewall Riots with the ‘Christopher Street’ piece really shows his bottomless lack of tact and frankly being extremely un self-aware.
Larry's time is up in KC. He's a 30-year-old back with little to no remaining value in the league.
Please, god, to do not allow him to get those final 75 yards to become the Chiefs all time leading rusher - he flat out doesn't deserve it.
Don't cut him, Don't trade him. Make him sit and steal the rest of his guaranteed $16 million.

Yes. It was appropriate given what he said.
Larry Johnson represents the Chiefs. In fact, given how awful his play has been this year, you could say he represents the team perfectly!
He said some really offensive stuff, disparaging his coach and the fans who pay his salary, so a suspension is perfectly appropriate.
Do you disagree? Try saying the same stuff Johnson said to your own boss at work and see what happens...

They should've fired him.
If this was the first time this past-his-prime moron had spouted off at the mouth, I would still fire him.
Certain things are unacceptable under any circumstances.
Using gay slurs is no more acceptable than using racial slurs, and both require strong, swift action.
You do not use those words accidentally or unknowingly, especially several times.
The Chiefs are a private club and can do what they want. They need to remember, however, that because of their unique position in the public eye, the actions they don't take are just as loud as those they do.
They reflect our community at large. If they play him again, it tells the world that his behavior was only marginally unacceptable in our city.
That is false. It was very wrong, and the Chiefs and the NFL should make that message clear.

They should've fired him.
Let's be real. The Chiefs were looking for an excuse after LJ called out Haley.
The 'homophobic slurs' nonsense is a smokescreen.
Sure, LJ was dumb enough to give them an excuse but I don't believe for a second any of this happens if he didn't call out his head coach.
I do think it's impressive that he, as a straight man, knows what Christopher Street is, and that he could make such an informed comment.
Sounds like he may have some firsthand experience he may be inadvertently disclosing. Closet cases – they're everywhere!!!

Alexander Morales
They should've fired him.
There needs to be a limit to what an organization will take from a problem employee. Enough is enough.
Johnson does not deserve to play and he definitely does not deserve the all-time rushing title for the Chiefs.
Let him go do what he wants and say good-bye. Maybe then he can finally get his rapping career off the ground.

Yes. It was appropriate given what he said.
It is never appropriate to publicly bash another teammate, and further, the slurs are yet another example of his lack of respect for others and evident of his true character which is certainly less than role model material.
I wish the Chiefs would've let him go a LONG time ago.

Who cares? The Chiefs suck with or without him.
I think the man should be more careful about what he says, especially given his obviously public profile.
And I think the Chiefs probably should punish him in some way. But this seems a little out of hand.
That said, the most disturbing thing about this to me is that the Chiefs pay one player $660,000 in two weeks.
They've won how many games this year? How many last year? Why is it that I work so hard and get paid so little then?

Yes. It was appropriate given what he said.
Being a gay person, it is hard enough to hear gay slurs. Let alone when it is someone that is in the public eye.
Everyone has the right to their own opinion but according to me, they don't have the right say things like that when they are broadcasting to the general public.
Any respect I had for him has since left the building!

Who cares? The Chiefs suck with or without him.
First of all, I thought he had left the Chiefs after last season - shows how much attention I'm paying to the team, but that IS a lot of $$$.
LJ is going to be LJ. You can fine him all day long and I doubt if it will matter.
I get his frustration and I kinda agree with his tweet (minus slurs) but some things you just don't say.
He's made the atmosphere HE has to work in that much harder.
Oh, and I'll fill in during his suspension for HALF of that $. Dag, they are off this week too?! So $330k for a week of nothing? I'm in the wrong business....

Will Moulthrop
They should've fired him.
The punishment doesn't fit the crime, but this guy has also not carried himself like a professional - or a Chief - from the get-go.
-
Ryan Williams
Who cares? The Chiefs suck with or without him.
However, I think they should forever ban LJ from playing, keeping the franchise rushing record out of his hands.
He's a poison to an already weak team and should be made a moral example of.
