I am a 27-year-old Kansas City transplant from Michigan. I am in no way a dating expert. In fact, I often have a love-hate relationship with dating. But when it comes to talking about dating, it's all love.

Mood music

What's the best music to start a little romance? Depends on who you ask. But this is Kansas City. I say stay true to our roots and put on some jazz.

Soft, slow, sexy songs to dance to. In your own apartment even. Sounds dorky, but it's romantic.

Tonight it's Friday. The night my friend DJ Miles plays soul, jazz and R&B records at Spitfire Grill on 39th Street. He's calls it "The Sauce," and there's mood lighting, no cover, and of course, sexy songs. I suggest if you ever need somewhere chill to go after a Friday night date, stop by.

And if you're not dating and you just want to hear some good music and have a smooth glass of wine, go. I've never been there with a date before -- only friends -- and it's still awesome. Just don't let the love songs bring you down.

miles davis, billie holiday, john coltrane, thelonious monk. those are my favorite mood music artists.
kungfu- thats what miles spins. it is phenomenal. seriously.
Blues all the way. Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Koko Taylor, and Son House. I can't think of a better distillation of raw emotion than the blues.
The National, Nick Drake, Stars, Clientele
absolute WORST was when a guy put on Battles....
I like Luther Vandross or Vanessa Williams. My wife likes Elton John and Billy Joel. Diana Krall or even Sade could work. :)
I LOVE SADE!
This is just a joke but ... R. Kelly and Notorius BIG's "I'm ... You Tonight"
I must agree that slow soultry jazz is the best hormone producing music I can think of. Some really great vibes, slow smooth and tasteful and it goes great with a dim lighted room/candles! Awwww Yaaaaa!
