MARLEY AND ME
It’s a good week for Bob Marley fans.
If he were still alive, the Jamaican reggae legend would turn 65 this Saturday. To celebrate, several local reggae bands have organized tributes in Lawrence. On Friday, Lenexa-based Marley tribute band Jus Marley brings its laid-back Caribbean vibe to Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., and tickets cost $12 to $25 each.
At 9 p.m. Saturday, local reggae bands Ras Neville and the Kingstonians, Checkered Beat and The Irietions jam at the Granada, 1020 Massachusetts St. Tickets cost $7, and — in true Bob spirit — all proceeds go to the Haitian relief effort.
We’re envisioning Red Stripe beer, palm trees and stoned college kids.

UMPHREY'S MCGEE
The trek to Lawrence will be worth it this week for fans of jam band Umphrey’s McGee.
The ’90s-born rock group has prog influences (think Pink Floyd) mixed in with their jam-band sound (think Phish). They released their latest album, Mantis, in early 2009, and have spent their time since then buried in a heavy tour schedule that lasts into this summer.
Catch them Wednesday at Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St. in Lawrence. Tickets are $20.50 in advance or $25.50 the day of the show. Doors open at 7 p.m.
