This Valentine’s Day, go all the way.

Forget the stale candy hearts and the heart-shaped box of chocolates — if you’re going to splurge on calories, you might as well eat something you won’t regret the morning after. Something good enough to brag about on Facebook or at the company water cooler.

With help from Kansas City’s top pastry chefs, we compiled a list of unique, decadent and unforgettable local desserts. Imagine an ice cream sandwich made with deep-fried Oreos. A beer sundae. Bacon brittle. Chocolate cake so moist you have to eat it with a spoon. Getting excited yet?

“Dessert puts you in a good mood,” said Nick Wesemann, pastry chef at The American Restaurant.

Dessert can put you in a sexy mood, too. Wesemann said last Valentine’s Day, he served a chocolate souffle with a hot-fudge shooter on the side. Things got messy, in the best way: “Suddenly,” Wesemann said, “there are people doing naughty things in the middle of the dining room.”

Check, please!
