Billy Blanks Jr., spawn of Tae-Bo founder Billy Blanks, has created a fitness program so stupid it’s actually kind of great.

“Cardioke” is what happens when you update “Sweatin’ to the Oldies,” subtract one flamboyant dude in hot pants, and add singing.

Yes. Singing.

Turns out, crooning during cardio is good for things like improving lung capacity and looking like an ass.

After trying the workout, I felt like I had accomplished both.

I ordered the DVD for $20 at musicspace.com and asked (begged) my roommate, Meghann, to exercise with me.

One minute into “Let’s Get it Started” by The Black Eyed Peas, she had hit the floor laughing. Because, really, what’s more embarrassing than doing a workout video?

Oh, right — singing while doing a workout video.

Songs include “Unwritten” by Natasha Beddingfield, “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor and “Don’t Cha” by the Pussycat Dolls. In the spirit of karaoke, lyrics appear at the bottom of the screen.

Instructor Blanks Jr. is charismatic and motivational, though a little pitchy at times.

In the video, he and wife Sharon lead an awkward assembly of rhythmless grandmas and flabby 40-somethings. You know, people who have no business singing and dancing.

Out of consideration for my downstairs neighbors, I kept my footwork to a minimum.

But thanks to Blanks, I picked up some sweet moves for my sister’s wedding reception later this month. I smell a singalong. …

WTF?
