So I have 30 days to decide if I love/hate my new West Elm rug.

I'm a beige person, so this is the brightest thing I own (other than my hair).

Maybe it's the furntiture and/or furniture arrangement that needs help.

So give it to me straight, decorator-wannabes.

What do you think?

Does it pass the Dude's test and tie the room together, or should a Chinaman* pee on it?

* - Dude, chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature. Asian-American, please.

Love the rug. I'm no fan of white and brown together. Can you paint the walls off-white or khaki or something to bring a little color palette unity? A nice coffee table would take the attention off that, uh storage unit? between the sofa thingy and the chair.
You posted a blog asking whether or not people like your rug? How did this get past the editor? Oooooh.
Ok, I don't know who the alien is siting on the couch...that bothers me:) He or she is distracting to the rug photo. You have that huge wall lit for showing off a huge painting, or an assortment of such. Pick one/some that coincide with the colors in the rug. Kinda just like you...having that beautiful auburn hair which I'm sure you select your wardrobe to complete you:)
The best way to add pops of color to a room is through accessories such as pillows, rugs, art, flowers, knick-knacks, etc. I loooove light blue and chocolate, so I'm definitely in favor of this. What's throwing me off are the sage pillows that don't really tie into anything you have in the room right now. I'd go with various shades of blue, cream and brown in your pillows, or maybe hang an additional piece of art with dominant greens so it connects to the pillows you already have. Shameless plug, by the way -- Domino is one of my all-time favorite magazines, and if you don't already know, they have a decorating book that comes out within the next couple of weeks. You can order it with the reader discount for www.bn.com/domino.
