Somebody Make it Stop!

If you closely follow the economy and the market like I do, then you have been strapped into a roller coaster ride that will not end. I’ve been screaming uncle at the top of my lungs for the past week but my voice is drowned out by the huge groans of the political and economic machine pushing the coaster along. Somebody MAKE IT STOP!

I am pretty certain right now that the only companies making money are the media companies(CNBC, MSNBC, Wall Street Journal, etc.) that deliver blow by blow accounts of what’s taking place on Wall Street and in D.C. I can’t front though; I’m addicted to it too. You think Pookie in New Jack City had it bad? The whole story of the meltdown of America is like a soap opera with bad acting, and terrible plots. At least soaps give us attractive people to look at. I’ve been forced to look at images of Henry Paulson, Ben Bernanke and Warren Buffett for the past several weeks. Once again somebody MAKE IT STOP!

Yesterday, Congress in all its infinite wisdom defeated a bailout bill that would provide liquidity to big banks in the American system. Right now credit markets are tighter than Madonna’s break out hit and our economy needs a boost to keep standing. As much as I loath the idea of helping out those greedy effer’s on Wall Street, a bailout is absolutely needed. The risks to you and me on Main Street are too great because over time we have all become too dependent on the banking system. Our economy could survive if we lost GM and Ford, maybe even Wal-Mart but the big banks must stay, much to my chagrin. What’s so crazy is that Congress knows this, but because it is an election year and they don’t want to tee off their constituents they shot it down. Way to go Congress on not having the gonads to actually do something to help. Somebody please make it stop…
