Half of bluegrass duo Truckstop Honeymoon

Katie Euliss from Truckstop Honeymoon

Hurricane Katrina forced Truckstop Honeymoon duo Katie Euliss and Mike West out of New Orleans, but they’ve settled nicely in Lawrence, where they stay between performing their bluegrass-y shows nationally and abroad.

They recently performed at Missouri Chainsaw Grassacre at Crossroads KC and this month have a slew of shows scheduled throughout Colorado and the Pacific Northwest.

Euliss sat down to outline 10 songs that currently have her ear.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen

“Freddy Mercury is just an amazing singer, and this song totally rocks! Plus all four of my kids sing along to it turned up loud !

“Another One Bites the Dust”

by Queen

“My 3-year-old daughter’s favorite. She was licking her pink ice cream cone in time to it at her birthday party. Amazing disco guitar.”

“Jungle Blues” by C.W.

“An incredible singer from Australia. His primitive horn orchestra blows me away.”

“Love Me or Die” by C.W.

“A haunting calypso song about a voodoo charm in New Orleans that went wrong. Again, the instrumentation is artfully superb.”

“Coming Down” by

Anders Osborne

“Soulful and beautiful. Hugely cathartic feeling song with touch of apologetic love.”

“Back on Dumaine” by

Anders Osborne

“Cool tuba bass line. Takes me right to my guts, missing New Orleans, but it not being there in the same way to go back to.”

“Carnival” by Peter Wilde

“Sloppy, funny, folky song by a great friend in Eugene.”

Tangos by various artists of the 1920’s in Argentinian brothels

“Gorgeous atmospheric stuff.”

“Orgasm Addict” by the

“Punchy, hooky, awesome guitars played by Pete Shelley and, of course, the lyrics are just fantastic, too.”

“Don’t Wipe Your Face on Your Shirt” by the Cornell Hurd Band

“This song is so funny and deadpan and true for any parent.”
