We mine social media for some conversation starters this week: Frank White is in with the T-Bones. Missouri ponders making texting-while-driving illegal. And someone just got schooled on the importance of privacy settings (HINT: Tweeting about someone hoping for a school shooting won’t make you any new friends).
A screen grab of someone allegedly tweeting “Dude I hope there’s a school shooting at Mizzou ” has been making the rounds on social media lately. Fans on both sides of the state line seem to agree on one thing: Even in jest, that’s just not cool to say.
“Idiocy.”
— Rosie Mistretta via Facebook
“I’m all for freedom of speech but why would someone say that?”
— Stephanie Adams via Facebook
“Let’s hope the nice folks at the FBI pay him a visit very soon.”
— Jon Stephens via Facebook
“No intelligent sentence begins with the word ‘dude.’ ‘Dude, ask not what you can do for your country.’ ‘Dude, I have a dream.’ ‘Dude, E=MC².’ Nope, dude wasn’t likely being serious, just making a lame joke for attempted shock value.”
— Steven Olaf via Facebook
“How could someone be so insensitive to school shootings? What a nincompoop!”
@this_is_Barta
“What a moron.”
@dhammondKU
“I would feel the same if it came from a Mizzou fan. Even if its a joke it is NEVER OK to say this”

Well, while we’re on the topic… Police chiefs from nine Kansas colleges and universities have come out against a measure that would allow concealed guns in public buildings. We asked if the ability to bring a gun on campus would make you feel safer, and your answers were split.
“Not at all. Because then the idiots that already sneak guns in and go on a rampage will be able to just carry it in without question! I don’t want to be places constantly worrying about the “strange man in the corner” popping off shots for no apparent reason. I’m ALL FOR conceal and carry (have mine) and your right to bear arms, but some people have no business being able to legally carry guns let alone into public places.”
— Jeff Markway via Facebook
“If there are more people allowed to carry in these places then the “Strange man in the corner” will be less likely to go on a rampage and if he were he would be stopped much faster than if trained permit holders are not allowed to carry in the same establishment.”
— Jake Rhoads via Facebook
“I don’t think it would. I know there are safety precautions you take when owning a gun but accidents happen.”
— Lindsay Bozek via Facebook
“Yes. People with conceal and carry aren’t the ones to worry about.”

Royals legend Frank White has a new gig: Coaching for the Kansas City T-Bones.
“If he coaches as well as he played the game, the T-Bones win games!”
— Doug Conrad via Facebook
“No offense to the T-Bones (it’s a fun experience and quality minor league baseball) but seeing Frank White coaching in KCK makes me even more furious over the Royals’ bush league treatment of a true Kansas City treasure.”
— Steven Woolfolk via Facebook
“Frank White is a class act wherever he is.”
— Suzie McCulley via Facebook
“They would have a hard time finding anyone who knows the game better. The Royals are missing something without him around.”
— Danny Porter via Facebook
“Once again (the Royals) make it hard to be a fan.”
@Magpiebrownie
“This breaks my blue-blood heart.”

A proposed bill would make it illegal for all drivers — not just those 21 and younger — to text while driving . Right now, the debate is centering on whether to make it a primary offense or a secondary offense (meaning you have to get pulled over for something else first). We asked if it should be a primary offense, a secondary offense, or even illegal at all.
“If you’re going to prosecute texting, prosecute putting on makeup while driving, eating while driving, changing your CDs/music while driving — it’s the DISTRACTIONS — ban one, you need to ban them all! So, secondary!”
— Sharon Cook Chambers via Facebook
“Primary offense — Inattentive Driving. Better yet, phones should have a sensor built in so that when the car is put in drive, texting is blocked!”
— Jolene Zacarello Robinson via Facebook
“Just don’t take my Starbucks away.”
— Adrienne Robles Hukill via Facebook
“Illegal? No. But people must realize texts can wait.”

Bike rentals are coming to downtown Kansas City. By this summer, the pedaling-inclined should be able to rent bikes from the River Market to Crown Center.
“They have those in NYC! I think it would be great, however KC drivers are nuts!”
— Steven Jennings via Facebook
“Depending on how close a station is to where I live, I’ll sign up.”
— Isaac Wilson via Facebook
“Very cool. Just hope they have plenty of stations.”
@kcconejito
“Great idea!”
