Who she is: An Overland Park mom and author

What she reads: “I read a lot of young adult books, and I really like Jane Austen. She’s had a resurgence in popularity.”

On e-readers: “I still like books, but I would take a Kindle if someone gave it to me.”

Me, Just Different, the first in a teen fiction series, follows Skylar Hoyt, a popular high school senior who nearly gets raped at a party and vows to change her in-crowd lifestyle.

“I ended up marrying my high school sweetheart,” said Morrill, who attended Notre Dame de Sion. “Seeing how high school impacted my adult life made me want to work on young adult projects.”

Her third installment, So Over It, comes out next month.

“I love writing for teenagers,” Morrill said. “I love my readers and the enthusiasm they write to me with.”

You can meet Morrill at her book signing on July 31 at Barnes & Noble in Oak Park Mall.

Niffenegger’s follow-up to her bestselling The Time Traveler’s Wife is a haunting novel about twin sisters who inherit a London flat from their recently deceased aunt.

“I thought The Time Traveler’s Wife was so creative,” Morrill said. “Her storytelling is amazing, and her writing is beautiful.”

Luis Alberto Urrea, $14.99

“It’s a kind of coming-of-age book that deals with a woman who lives in a coastal Mexican town,” Morrill said. “I love unique places for a book and learning about locations.”
