Westport St. Patrick’s Day Run

Where: Westport
What: A Westport tradition, this year’s race will be held the weekend before St. Patrick’s Day. You can compete as part of a team or a “centipede team” (three or more attached runners), in addition to individually. The race starts and ends near the intersection of Westport Road and Pennsylvania Avenue. Costumes are highly encouraged. Registration is $30 through Thursday and $35 through race day. The race benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City.

Fake Patty’s Caravan Crawl
When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday
Where: Eleven locations throughout Brookside/Waldo
What: Registration includes access to 11 bars in the Brookside/Waldo area, three drink tickets and access to drink specials and transportation. Bars include Brooksider, Charlie Hooper’s and the Well. Registration is $60.

Irishpalooza

Where: 135th Street near Holmes in Martin City
What: The day is packed with events surrounding the 26th annual Martin City St. Patrick’s Day Parade. There’s an event tent with a DJ, a best dressed dog contest and a 5K run in the hours leading up to the 2 p.m. parade. Parade winners will be announced at 4 p.m. at the event tent.

“Lawyers, Lawmen and Outlaws”

Where: Kansas City Central Library, 14 W. 10th St.
What: Local author Pat O’Neill, who wrote “From the Bottom Up: The Story of the Irish in Kansas City,” discusses the Irish legacy. The event is free.

Brookside St. Patrick’s Day Warm-Up Parade
When: 2 p.m. March 16
Where: Begins at 65th and Wornall
What: Historic Brookside hosts its 33rd annual parade through the area’s quaint neighborhoods. The theme for this year’s parade is “Lucky 13.” The parade is free.

Where: KC Live! Block and various Power & Light District bars
What: Things start early, when McFadden’s Sports Saloon and the Dubliner open their doors at 7 a.m. for beer and breakfast. There are contests, games and specials on green beer and shots beginning at 11 a.m. There’s live music starting at 1 p.m. from Patrick Woolam and the Transients, the Patrick Lentz Band, Dolewite and DJ Pauly D on the KC Live! stage. Admission to the Live! Block is free.

Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade

What: The city’s most notable St. Patrick’s Day parade celebrates its 41st year. This year’s theme is “Gathering of the Clans — An Irish Homecoming,” and the Rev. Patrick Tobin serves as the grand marshal. The parade is free to attend.
