My Essentials: Alicia Douglas, 33

Ink

Good thing Alicia Douglas likes serving her community. It’s part of her job as director of the Rockhurst University Community Center.

“I work with our neighbors and help the university keep a good relationship with the neighborhood and larger community,” says Douglas, 33.

She sees her job as a way to help students find opportunities to serve. She leads by example, working with the Tulips on Troost program, which aims to have a million tulips blooming on Troost Avenue by spring.

“We’re trying to bring that attention back to this avenue that’s unfortunately marked as a dividing line rather than a wonderful unifier,” she says.

When Douglas isn’t busy at Rockhurst, you can probably find her at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she’s working on a master’s degree in sociology.

Here are Douglas’ necessities.
