The Beast

When: Open daily through Nov. 3 beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Where: 1401 W. 13th St. in the West Bottoms

What: Founded in 1991, the Beast bills itself as the largest haunted house operating in the U.S. Explore the Werewolf Forest, a quarter-acre space in which you’re forced to find your way out without the luxury of lights. You can also tour Jack the Ripper’s London and check out the live alligator on-site. Tickets are $27.

The Chambers of Edgar Allan Poe

When: Wednesday beginning at 8 p.m.

Where: 1100 Santa Fe St. in the West Bottoms

What: The house inspired by the dark writings of Edgar Allan Poe attempts to create the feeling of being buried alive. Tickets are $20.

The Edge of Hell

When: Open daily through Nov. 3 beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Where: 1300 W. 12th St. in the West Bottoms

What: Kansas City’s oldest haunted house was founded in 1975 and is still considered a groundbreaking work of Halloween-themed fun. If the 45 live actors wandering the quarter-mile path don’t scare you, the creatures such as Medusa, a 25-foot python, probably will. Tickets are $27.

Macabre Cinema Haunted House

When: Wednesday beginning at 8 p.m.

Where: 1222 W. 12th St. in the West Bottoms

What: Relive scenes from horror movies in this house built to resemble a 1930s-era movie theater. Featuring movie sets from “The Mummy” and “Hellraiser” and four floors of entertainment. Tickets are $20.

3rd Street Asylum

When: 7 p.m. to midnight, Wednesday and Friday

Where: Intersection of 3rd Street and Cedar in Bonner Springs

What: Haunted house located in Bonner Springs. Tickets are $17-$18.

John Wornall House Museum Ghost Tours

When: 6, 7, 8, 9 p.m. Wednesday

Where: The John Wornall House Museum, 6115 Wornall Road

What: This tour is lit by lantern and takes you through the John Wornall House, which was built in 1858. Tickets are $15, and advance reservations are highly encouraged.

John Wornall House Museum Paranormal Investigations

When: 10 p.m.-2 a.m. Wednesday

Where: The John Wornall House Museum, 6115 Wornall Road

What: Learn how to use ghost-hunting equipment and track down the paranormal in this four-hour, late-night tour. Investigators from Paranormal Distraction and Elite Paranormal of Kansas City lead the way and answer questions.

Where: Copaken Stage, 1 H&R Block Way (intersection of 13th and Walnut)

What: Faux-horror play starring Kansas City actors Mark Robbins and Ron McGee. The play enjoyed success in the 1980s, serving as a comical ode to literature and popular culture. Tickets are $20-$54.

What: Burlesque Downtown Underground puts on a Halloween-inspired performance. Tickets are $10 at the door.
