OF MONTREAL AND JANELLE MONAE She may be billed as the opening act, but the draw of this weekend’s show at Liberty Hall is soul music it girl Janelle Monae. The Kansas City, Kan., native has been turning heads everywhere with her throwback sound and style. Her album “The ArchAndroid,” released in May, has already scored a big hit with “Tightrope,” featuring OutKast rapper Big Boi.

Headlining the show is Georgia-based indie pop act Of Montreal. The band is known for its experimental, psychedelic take on pop music and quirky song lyrics. The band’s latest album, “False Priest,” was released in September.

The show starts at 8 p.m. in Lawrence. Tickets are $21.

JERRY SEINFELD From the standup circuit to late-night talk shows to his namesake sitcom, self-made comedy superstar Jerry Seinfeld has been making people laugh since the ’80s. Since his namesake NBC show “Seinfeld” wrapped after nine seasons, Seinfeld has returned to his standup comedy roots and toured the country. His sold-out show at The Midland starts at 7 p.m.

SOUND OF MUSICSING-ALONG Sing along with Maria and the von Trapp children to help raise money for the Good Samaritan Project during a sing-along of “The Sound of Music” on Thursday at the Screenland Armour, 408 Armour Road in North Kansas City.

The screening is part of Castro Movie Nights, which raise money for local HIV/AIDS service charities. Tickets are $8 for general admission or more for VIP recliner seats. Cocktails are served at 7 p.m. Thursday, and the movie starts at 8 p.m. Find tickets at gsp-kc.org. Additional screenings are at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday. Bonus: Screenland Armour’s “The Wizard of Oz” sing-along happens this week, too: noon and 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday.

WIZARDS vs. SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES It’s your last chance to see the Kansas City Wizards soccer team play this season. The team takes on the San Jose Earthquakes at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Tickets are $15-$125. Find coverage on The Full 90, The Star’s soccer blog on KansasCity.com.

HALLOWEENIE ROAST Because nothing says Halloween like quirky indie folk music, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros (pictured) headline this year’s Halloweenie Roast. The show, put on every year by 96.5 The Buzz, happens in the outdoor area of The Beaumont Club. This year’s lineup also features indie rock group Ra Ra Riot, alt rock duo Middle Class Rut and Lawrence bands Fourth of July and The Grisly Hand. Doors open at 4 p.m. Show starts at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $25.
