Cinco de Mayo weekend roundup

The holiday falls on Sunday this year, and celebrations extend through the weekend.

The Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Guadelupe Center will be Friday through Sunday.


Cinco de Mayo Parade and Festivities

Where: Downtown KCK

When: Saturday-Sunday

What: Parade starts at 11 a.m. Saturday at Seventh Street and Minnesota Avenue. Live music, food, drinks and horse shows will take place Saturday after parade and Sunday (noon to 5 p.m.) outside Bonito Michoacan, 1150 Minnesota Ave.

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta

Where: Guadalupe Centers, 1015 Avenida Cesar E. Chavez

When: Friday through Sunday

What: Concert/dance begins at 6 p.m. Friday (admission $2 for adults). Fiesta Mexicana with live music, food and drink, will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Mariachi Fest will be Sunday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine, 907 Avenida Cesar E. Chavez; mariachi Mass and Mexican breakfast will be 8 a.m. to noon, followed by regional mariachi performance 1 to 8 p.m.

Chihuahua Parade and Festival

Where: Barney Allis Plaza

When: Sunday

What: Attempt to break Guinness record for most dogs in costume; registration begins at 10 a.m.

Cinco de Mayo

Where: Habanero’s Restaurant, 1008 S.E. Blue Parkway

When: Sunday

What: Tent party starts at 11 a.m., drink specials and giveaways at 1 p.m., live music at 4 p.m.

Derby de Mayo

Where: Westport

When: Noon Saturday

What: Specials at seven bars; drink tickets $15-$25.

Cinco De Cabot

Where: KC Live! in Power & Light District

When: Friday

What: Free concert featuring Sugar Ray and Aztlan, benefiting Cabot Westside Medical and Dental Center.

Cinco De Drinko

Where: Power & Light District

When: Saturday

What: Drink tickets and music by the Dan Band at 8 p.m.

Cinco De Tengo All-Day Fiesta

Where: Tengo Sed Cantina in Power & Light District

When: Sunday

What: Contests, beer pong tournaments and drinks, noon to 3 a.m.

Cinco de Mayo brunch

What: Author Mary Collins Barile observes Cinco de Mayo with look at history of Santa Fe Trail and its importance to the Kansas City area.

What: Two-day festival includes music from Dolewite and The Zeroes and lots of drink specials.
