Charles Gooch

This is Artificial Tangent, a source of all things nerd and subversive. Mostly we'll talk movies, but music, television, The Highlander comic books and the collected works of Danielle Steel are all on the agenda.

... and I want to know if anyone else is nervous about it. Or do you even care that Axl Rose and Guns N' Roses is back?

I can't tell if I'm nervous about it because I can't believe it finally is going to be released or if I'm nervous because I'm afraid I'm going to waste my money. (There's a third option that I'm nervous about being denied my free Dr. Pepper by some weird glitch that you have to be named Henry and live in Flagstaff to be eligible. You don't mess with people's love of Dr. Pepper.)

It was comforting to see that uber-nerd hipster and inspiration to men named Charles everywhere, Chuck Klosterman, liked it.

Here are the simple things about Chinese Democracy: Three of the songs are astonishing. Four or five others are very good. The vocals are brilliantly recorded, and the guitar playing is (generally) more interesting than the guitar playing on the Use Your Illusion albums.

So, do you care?

In movie news, the "Arrested Development" movie is a go. And there's a new trailer for Darren Aronofsky's "The Wrestler." Enjoy. Both will be awesome.

How much can you actually celebrate a 17-point victory against a 1-9-1 team that hardly anyone watched because the NFL Network and several large cable providers can't reach a deal to give the world these games AND the coverage available online reminds you of a bad high-school news program? Well, I hate to say this since a good friend of mine is a die-hard Bengals fan, but the answer to that question is plenty.

Programming note: Due to schedule restraints and adjustments, Artificial Tangent will be updated primarily Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from this ponit forward. Monday is sports, Wednesday is movies and Thursday is Top 10 day. Anything on Tuesday/Friday will be subject to news and/or free time. The Friday Weekend Wake-Up Call is, for the most part, done. Thanks for sticking with the adjustment phase of the blog.

I've been listening to it for more than a week. I don't see what the fuss is about. It's been getting all of these rave reviews and I think it's a fairly average, over-produced rock album.
You've had it an not shared? You, sir, are evil.
