What you missed while Sasha Obama was charming America.
5 Things You May Not Have Known Before Reading This...
1. "Babylon A.D." is going to be a monumental disaster — and oddly appropriately, it opens against the destined-to-suck spoof "Disaster Movie" — and it's not just the press and people who have seen the trailer. It's also the director, Mathieu Kassovitz. He says the film resembles a bad episode of 24. That's not good. Here's a the story. Here's a sample quote.
“I never had a chance to do one scene the way it was written or the way I wanted it to be. The script wasn't respected. Bad producers, bad partners, it was a terrible experience.”
The movie stars Vin Diesel and it opens Friday. Check the trailer here.
2. "Choke" isn't in theaters yet, and already there's talk of more Chuck Palahniuk movie adaptations. This time, it's "Rant," which came out two years ago. Being a huge, massive Palahniuk nerd, I think this book might be the hardest to turn into a movie. (Well, "Snuff" is probably technically harder, but that's only because it would have to be NC-17.)
Chuck once said that all of his books have been optioned, so this isn't a terrible surprise.
3. Kimbo Slice vs. Ken Shamrock. A YouTube sensation vs. a MMA legend. And it might happen for free on Oct. 4 on CBS. According Sherdog (an MMA blog), former WWF fighter, UFC champ and "World's Most Dangerous Man," Ken Shamrock will be the fourth fight for Slice. I'm officially terrified of Kimbo. But he's not fought anyone with the talent of Shamrock. Should be a good fight.
4. This more of a confession. A confession in the form of a question. Is anyone else surprised at how much Slipknot sucks now? (And, yes, that's a confession that I used to like Slipknot.) They have a new album out today. Ten years ago, I was all about it. Dug the look. The sound. I really didn't care that it made me less cultured. Whatever. I like heavy metal. And, it used to be, I liked Slipknot.
But have you heard their new song, "Psychosocial"? God, what the hell is up with that chorus? Why, if you've made a living on screaming, would you make an attempt at melody and harmony? It has never worked in metal. Unless your name is Bruce Dickinson and you're singing "Run to the Hills."

5. They make awesome movies in Germany that don't star David Hasselhoff. I'm going to show you a movie that's in German that I found on the International Movie blog Twitch. The movie is called Der Baader Meinhof Komplex. It's about a West German terrorist group in the 60s and 70s. It's pretty spectacular. Especially if you like Michael Bay-style explosions.
