Sad day in my world.
First Bernie Mac. Then Isaac Hayes. Now the guy that played Sho'Nuff in "The Last Dragon"?
That's too much.
The news is only starting to leak out (verified kinda on wikipedia.org but mostly via MediaTakeOut.com) that actor Julius Carry III died of pancreatic cancer.
I first noticed it on Jenee's blog here.
Variety says it's true. Sad.
Carry was best known (in my mind only known) as Sho'Nuff in "Last Dragon," one of the finest martial arts movies that absolutely no one talks enough about.
Here's a clip, pulled from the first scene featuring the Shogun from Harlem. It's classic 80's. Right down to the special effects.
R.I.P. Julius.
And now, back to your regularly scheduled trivia contest in process.
*****************************************
Answer a few questions, win a free "Rocker" shirt.
Rainn Wilson's new comedy "The Rocker," opening today, is about an aging guy that joins a college band to fulfill his dream of being a drummer.
And now you can fulfill your dream of winning a T-shirt that says "I only drum naked" in a trivia contest from inkkc.com.
(You should probably set your dreams a little higher. Like, aspire to be a good chef or the placekicker for the Broncos. Something that might get you laid.)
Here's the trailer. (I have to warn you, it's not getting good reviews. But, decide for yourself and report back. Here's Ink staffer Sarah's review.)
On with the questions. I have several of these shirts (though only in size Large) so there's room for multiple winners. The questions are all loosely based on the characters from "The Rocker." But I've thrown some others in there for fun.
1. On "The Office," what treat does Dwight get whenever his computer gets restarted in one of the all-time greatest Pavlovian tricks?
2. Co-Star Will Arnett's father was the CEO of what major company in the 90s?
3. What awful impression is Fred Armisen known for?
4. What is the name of Dwight's laser tag team in "The Office"?
5. Co-star Emma Stone first appeared in what movie?
Potential tie-breaker if my email is flooded with responses: "The Rocker" is the third consecutive comedy to open on a Wednesday. Ostensibly, it's to help the movie earn more money in a week. How much do you think "The Rocker" will make in its first five days? (Price is Right style, closest without going over wins.)
Send entries with your address (for sending purposes) to drgooch41@gmail.com. (And, if you don't want "Rocker" shirts, I've got a Star Wars shirt and a bunch of posters.)
And if you happen to see this movie today, please, let me know what you think.
