My (morning) Rant

Chances are, God hates the midwest.

Floods. Tornadoes. Ice storms. The Chiefs offensive line.

Face facts... paradise this ain't.

But last night, I heard stuff that I'm not really comfortable with. The sound of water rushing like a river in my backyard. The crackling snaps of transformers exploding. A deep bellowing voice telling me to build an ark.

"Are you talking to me?"

Waking up to find that you're no better rested than you were 6 hours before. There is still no power.

And you really could use a canoe.

OK, it's not that bad. Nothing is that bad. (Well, maybe this is that bad.)

It's just frustrating. If you've got power. If you're not forced to a Panera to leach leech [damned editors!] off the free Internet. God bless you.

But this is how I feel this morning.

I wish I lived off the grid. Had my own energy supply. Wasn't reliant on a company to get me reconnected. Wishing I didn't spend all night gazing at my neighbors porch light.

Starring at a circle-print fabric. Smelling the faint aroma of burning toast. Coffee. Tepid conversation. False laughing.

Last night's rain was relentless. It swallowed cars, crept onto roadways. And it all fits the pattern of hyperbole for the television weather-guessers.

This is the worst year ever. Flooding sucks.

Here's hoping for a dry basement, an intact roof and a fridge full of food that doesn't have to be chucked or fed to the dog. UPDATE! I'm back.
