My Essentials: Katie Erlinger, 27

Katie Erlinger, 27, has been immersed in the art world for most all of her life.

She’s been writing since age 14 but has been trying to get published only for the past two years. Numerous small publications have used her work, and she does poetry readings in the area.

Erlinger plans to graduate this month from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a literature degree.

“I’ve got to pass French and Logic first, though,” she says.

Writing isn’t her only art. This seamstress has been fashioning her own clothes and selling other garments on eBay since high school.

Her most recent artistic venture is a musical project she began with a friend called diconecktr.

“It’s a mix of spoken word and dancy electronic music,” she says.
