Broken Social SceneBroken Social Scene hasn’t put out a proper record in, oh, three years, but members of the indie-rock supergroup have been a bunch of touring Canadian fools lately — and not just on the festival circuit, either. This is thanks to two “solo” projects released by the band’s founders, Kevin Drew (Spirit If in 2007) and Brendan Canning (Something For All of Us in July). Drew’s and Canning’s albums aren’t much of a departure, given that the rest of the band plays on both and that each remains true to that signature Scenester style of power-pop-meets-experimental-rock.

The group drops by the Beaumont Club, 4050 Pennsylvania Ave., at 8 p.m. Thursday with Land of Talk. Tickets to the all-ages show cost $20.

Lucinda WilliamsAlt-country songstress Lucinda Williams brings her gravelly, well-worn music to the Uptown Theater, 3700 Broadway St., at 8 p.m. Monday. Williams has always been known for delivering earnest, heartfelt music on her albums, but her live performances are far more intense, sexual and vulnerable. If press is any indication, Williams’ latest album, Little Honey, released Tuesday, has sunnier fare than her last two offerings. Tickets are $34.50 to $40.50.

Hearts of DarknessDon’t be scared off by the enthusiastic dancing hippies down front. Don’t be intimidated by the never-ending song length. Don’t feel embarrassed for the sweaty musicians in the outlandish apparel. When the dozen or so members of the Hearts of Darkness squeeze on to the stage at the Record Bar, 1020 Westport Road, they’ll be in complete control.

The Afro-beat group offers pounding, relentless funk energy, and an exciting, sometimes dangerous, range of instrumental ability. With irrepressible showmanship, local rapper Les Izmore fits in as one of the vocalists and helps make sense of the group’s pairing with opener (yes, opener) Reach. This 21-and-over show kicks off at 10 p.m. Friday. Cover is $8.

Delete this comment I would also recommend Apollo Sunshine at the Record Bar tonight with supporting acts Organic Proof and Restless Breed. The show starts at 9:46pm. www.myspace.com/apollosunshine.
