Amity File, 25, is your typical restless twentysomething.

Three years ago, she earned a journalism degree from the University of Kansas, but “it wasn’t what I wanted.”

In 2006, she moved to Los Angeles to attend the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. That didn’t do it for her either.

Last summer, she returned to her Kansas City roots and landed a job as an account planner at Barkley advertising agency.

Bingo.

“L.A. really wasn’t for me,” she says. “My family’s here, and I wasn’t ready to be out there.”

And now?

“I’m doing exactly what I wanted to do.”
