From bare concrete to a million-dollar loft

When Danny Zaslavsky saw his loft for the first time, it was all concrete and glass — no carpet, no paint, no bathroom, no kitchen.
He knew he had to have it.
“I didn’t want a space that was already finished,” Zaslavsky, 24, said.
Zaslavsky and his partner, Mark Stahl, 23, decided to transform the barren space into a home.
“We had no clue how it was going to turn out,” Zaslavsky said.
The couple and their two German shepherds, Bali and Keeley, inhabit what has become a polished, modern abode in The View, 600 E. Admiral Blvd.
The apartment — with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the River Market, Columbus Park and the northern slice of downtown — has an upstairs bedroom loft and 22-foot ceilings. Ink visited to catch a glimpse of what it’s like to inhabit a million-dollar pad.
At first, Zaslavsky said, “it felt like we were walking around a museum — very echo-ey until we filled it up with furniture.”
The aesthetic is airy and modern: white walls, wood floors and sleek, low-slung couches.
A few extra touches make the space special.
The master bathroom’s shower has a pebble floor and a body-length window overlooking the bedroom.
There’s a flat-screen TV — in the bathroom.
The kitchen cabinets are Corvette red, a nod to Zaslavsky’s job as general sales manager at Country Hill Motors.
Zaslavsky and Stahl selected the granite slab countertops from a granite yard.
Living here is a dream come true for Zaslavsky, who said he always wanted to be in the center of the city. The downtown home, with its central location, is ideal for the constantly moving couple, who love to travel north, south, east and west.
Plus, it’s close to the their favorite spots: JP Wine Bar and Coffee House, the Power & Light District and Succotash, a home-style River Market restaurant.
“We couldn’t have picked a better time to build downtown, with the Power & Light district up and downtown booming as it is,” Zaslavsky said. “We love living here.”
