Prepare to pay more to park in KC

April 16, 2008 12:43:37 pm

Better search the couch for more jingle.

The price for metered parking in downtown Kansas City is almost certainly going up thanks to the city’s budget crunch.

The council’s Transportation and Infrastructure Committee agreed Wednesday to recommend that the full Council raise the hourly parking rate to $1 starting May 1.

Because the revenue generated by the increase was included in the recently adopted budget, the increase is expected to pass. T

he rates have not changed since 2001, when the minimum hourly charge was set at 25 cents and the maximum hourly rate at 86 cents an hour.

The city has about 1,500 metered spaces with the majority in the downtown area.

Delete this comment less and less ppl are going to come to DT, with P&L's prices and this only the rich can make it out to DT and afford it...
Delete this comment I disagree. Other than a lunch crowd, most people visit the P&L District after 6pm - when the meters are free. Same on weekends. I live downtown and the price of meters sucks, but you can find parking that 2 hours free in some spots. Or, just go to the happy hour at 6 instead of 5:30.
